This 224-acre arboretum on the western edge of Augusta is one of the more underrated green spaces in Maine. Collections of conifers, rhododendrons, crabapples, and lilacs are spread across meadows and woodland. Trails wind through the grounds, and the whole place turns spectacular in October when the maples color. It is free and open year-round — worth an hour on any visit to Augusta.
