About thirty minutes' drive from Bar Harbor on the quieter west side of Mount Desert Island, in the working harbour of Bernard. You pick your lobster from a tank, they cook it, and you carry the tray to a picnic table on a pier over the water.
This is the lobster experience the postcards are selling — boats unloading the day's catch ten yards away, the smell of steam and salt, butter melting in a little plastic cup. Cash and cards both accepted. Open mid-May to late October.
