Quoddy Head State Park, a short drive from downtown Eastport across the causeway to the mainland and then out to Lubec, marks the easternmost point of the contiguous United States. The red-and-white striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse has guarded the entrance to the Bay of Fundy since 1808 (the current tower dates from 1858). On clear days you can see Grand Manan Island, and the cliffs below the park hold good vantage points for whale and seabird watching. Eastport itself, being on Moose Island, is actually slightly east of Lubec proper — locals note the point with some civic pride.
