Greenville Junction Depot

Surviving 1880s railway depot from the heyday of the lake hotels

A small wooden depot built in the 1880s for the Canadian Pacific Railway, when this was the junction of the Bangor & Aroostook and the Canadian Pacific lines and the gateway to the lake hotels. The line carried tourists from Boston and New York up to Moosehead through the 1940s. The depot survives as a historic building on the National Register, though it no longer sees passenger trains — the freight line is still active for paper traffic to Quebec.

A useful five-minute look on the way past, more interesting if you know what the place once was.
