The historic district is compact and best explored on foot. Most of the major sights — the State House, the Naval Academy, the colonial mansions, the City Dock — are within a 15-minute walk of each other. Parking in the district is limited and expensive; the parking garages just outside the historic area are a better option if you are driving.
The free Circulator trolley runs through the historic district in summer and covers the main attractions. For the Naval Academy, you will need to enter through the visitor's gate on King George Street with a photo ID.
