Rockville Town Square

Rockville Town Square is the revitalised core of downtown, a mixed-use development of shops, restaurants, and apartments arranged around a public plaza. It replaced an unpopular enclosed mall that had hollowed out the historic downtown in the 1970s, and the result is a genuinely pleasant urban space.

The square hosts a farmers market, outdoor concerts in summer, and ice skating in winter. The adjacent Rockville Metro station (Red Line) makes it one of the more walkable suburban centres in the Washington area. The F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre, a city-run performance venue, sits nearby.
