Cedar Street Restaurant

Cedar Street is Sturbridge's most consistently recommended option for a meal that isn't rooted in colonial nostalgia. The menu changes seasonally and leans toward locally sourced ingredients — the kitchen works with regional farms and adjusts the offerings based on what's available, which gives the food a more contemporary feel than most of what's on Route 20. Dishes tend toward the approachable end of farm-to-table: well-prepared proteins, good vegetables, nothing overly elaborate.

The room is smaller and quieter than the Publick House, which makes it a better option if you want an unhurried dinner rather than the bustle of a landmark inn. It also handles dietary restrictions more flexibly. After a full day at Old Sturbridge Village — which involves a lot of walking, outdoor time, and historical absorption — Cedar Street provides a useful reset toward the present. Book ahead on peak season weekends; the dining room fills up and walk-ins can face a significant wait.
