A car is essential in Sturbridge. The main attractions are spread along Route 20 and out into the surrounding countryside, with no local bus service connecting them. Old Sturbridge Village has its own dedicated parking lot off Route 20, clearly signed from the highway junction. Brimfield, the site of the antique show, is about five miles west on Route 20.
Bike rentals are available in the area for those who want to explore the back roads and the wells state park trail system on two wheels. The terrain around Sturbridge is gently rolling, manageable for most fitness levels. Route 20 itself carries too much traffic to be pleasant for cycling, but the side roads around the common and toward Wells State Park are quiet and well-suited to a half-day ride.
