Sturbridge

Small Massachusetts town known for Old Sturbridge Village and early New England history

Sturbridge is a small town in south-central Massachusetts, best known as the home of Old Sturbridge Village — a living history museum that recreates life in an early 19th-century New England community. Costumed interpreters demonstrate period crafts, farming, and domestic life across a 200-acre site with nearly 40 original buildings. It's one of the most visited outdoor history museums in New England.

Beyond the museum, the town has a decent cluster of restaurants and shops, several lakes popular for swimming and fishing in summer, and the Brimfield Antique Flea Market nearby — held three times a year, it's one of the largest outdoor antiques markets in the country.

Sturbridge sits at the junction of the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) and I-84, making it a natural stop between Boston and Hartford or New York.
