Cathedral of Saint Paul

19th-century Gothic Revival seat of the Worcester diocese

Address 38 High St, Worcester, MA 01609

The Cathedral of Saint Paul, the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Worcester, sits on the high ground just west of the Common. Built in the late 19th century in Gothic Revival style, the building reflects the period when Worcester's growing Irish, Italian, and French-Canadian immigrant populations transformed the city's religious life. The interior is large and impressive without being ostentatious, with good stained glass and a fine pipe organ.

Daily mass is celebrated, and the cathedral is open most weekdays for quiet visits. The location, on a small rise overlooking the city, is itself worth the walk up from the Common.
