Worcester has a four-season New England climate. Summers are warm and humid, with daytime highs in the 80s F (about 28 C); winters are cold and snowy, with lows often well below freezing. Spring is brief and changeable, but autumn — September into mid-October — is the best season to visit, with crisp, sunny days and the surrounding hills turning red and gold.
If you are heading out for a New England fall colour drive, Worcester makes a good base for a loop into the central Massachusetts countryside or the Berkshires. Avoid mid-July through mid-August unless you are happy with the heat.
