Blind Pig

A small, no-frills live music venue on South First Street that has been part of Ann Arbor's music scene since 1971. The Blind Pig books a mix of local bands, touring indie acts, and DJs across genres — rock, electronic, hip-hop, punk. The room holds a few hundred people at most, which means the shows feel immediate and loud in the best possible way.

The bar serves the usual drinks at reasonable prices. It is not the prettiest room in town, but that is beside the point. If you want to see live music in Ann Arbor outside of The Ark's folk-and-acoustic world, this is where you go. Check the schedule online; cover charges vary by act.

A story
The Blind Pig opened in 1971 and has served as a launching pad for several notable acts. Nirvana played a now-legendary show here in 1990, shortly before Nevermind made them famous. The venue's name is Prohibition-era slang for an unlicensed saloon.
