Getting Around

Downtown Ann Arbor and the university campus are compact and best explored on foot. Most of the restaurants, shops, and sights are within a one-mile radius of the intersection of State Street and Liberty Street. The terrain is flat to gently rolling.

TheRide (AATA) operates the city's bus system, with routes covering Ann Arbor and neighboring Ypsilanti. Service is frequent on main corridors during the day but thins out in the evenings and on weekends. The university also runs its own bus routes connecting campus buildings and student housing areas — these are free and open to the public.

Cycling is popular and practical. Ann Arbor has a decent network of bike lanes and multi-use paths. Parking downtown is metered and can be tight on weekdays and game days; the city operates several parking structures that are a better bet than circling for street spots.
