Baker's Keyboard Lounge

World's oldest continuously running jazz club, since 1934

Address 20510 Livernois Ave, Detroit, MI 48221

Baker's Keyboard Lounge opened in 1934 on Livernois Avenue and has been running ever since, making it by most measures the oldest jazz club in the world. The room is small, intimate, and exactly what a jazz club should look like — Steinway piano in the corner, keyboard-shaped bar, deep booths. The lineup mixes legendary local players with national touring artists.

It is on the northwest side of Detroit, off the usual tourist track. Worth the trip. Check the calendar in advance; some nights are local jam sessions, some are ticketed acts. Reservations recommended for big names.
