Detroit's attractions split across downtown, Midtown, the riverfront, and the suburbs of Dearborn and Bloomfield Hills. The Detroit Institute of Arts and the adjacent Detroit Historical Museum anchor Midtown's cultural quarter. The Motown Museum on West Grand Boulevard, Hitsville USA itself, draws music pilgrims year-round. Down by the river, Belle Isle is a 982-acre island park designed by Frederick Law Olmsted with an aquarium, conservatory, and skyline views.
The car museums are unmissable. The Henry Ford Museum and the adjoining Greenfield Village in Dearborn together make one of the great American museums — a full day at least. In the city itself, the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is where the Model T was built.
Downtown architecture rewards looking up. The Guardian Building's Art Deco lobby, the Fisher Building's marble interior, and the restored Michigan Central Station are all worth a detour. Filter the POIs below by category to focus on museums, sights, neighbourhoods, or architecture.
