Campus Martius is the central square at the heart of downtown Detroit, where Woodward Avenue, Michigan Avenue, and four other streets converge. The space was redesigned in 2004 as a year-round public park: in summer it has a sand beach with deck chairs and a band stage; in winter it hosts the largest outdoor ice rink in the city. Cadillac Square next door extends the public space east.
Food trucks, beer gardens, and concerts run through warm weather. The Spirit of Detroit, the Guardian Building, and the One Campus Martius office tower (Bedrock's headquarters) all stand a block or two away. This is where to start any walking tour of downtown.
