The Parlour, officially the All Star Dairy, is a Jackson institution that has been scooping its own ice cream from the same building since 1956. The menu runs to 50-plus flavours and a long catalogue of sundaes, with the Dare-to-be-Great — 21 scoops, the works — as the trophy item.
The atmosphere is sticky vinyl booths, decent burgers, and a long counter. It is a strange and reliable cross-section of Jackson on a Friday evening: high-school groups, retirees, families after little-league games. There is essentially no decor in the contemporary sense, and that is the point.
