Saugatuck Dunes State Park protects a wilder stretch of the same Lake Michigan coast that makes the town famous. Trails cross rolling, forested dunes before dropping to a long beach with fewer services and usually more space than Oval Beach.
It is a better choice if you want a walk as much as a swim. Bring water, expect sandy footing, and remember that the beach is reached on foot from the parking area.
