Duluth is 260 kilometres north of Minneapolis on Interstate 35, a drive of about two and a half hours in normal conditions. The route is busy on summer weekends as Twin Cities residents head north. There is no direct Amtrak service to Duluth.
Duluth International Airport (DLH) is served by Delta and United with connections through Minneapolis and Chicago. Flying is rarely the most efficient option given the frequency of the bus services from Minneapolis — Jefferson Lines runs multiple daily coaches between the two cities, with the journey taking around three hours.
The Greyhound and Jefferson Lines bus depot is in downtown Duluth. For car-free travel from Minneapolis, bus is the most practical option.
