Jay Cooke State Park

Rugged St. Louis River gorge park southwest of Duluth.

Jay Cooke State Park protects a dramatic stretch of the St. Louis River southwest of Duluth, where dark rock, rapids, forest, and the swinging bridge create one of the region's best easy-access landscapes. It feels wilder than its distance from the city suggests.

The park is worthwhile for hiking, photography, picnicking, and seeing the river before it reaches the Duluth-Superior harbour. It is a day-trip POI rather than an urban sight, but it is strong enough to belong with Duluth's outdoor travel options.
