McRaven House is one of the most architecturally interesting antebellum homes in Mississippi, built in three distinct phases between 1797 and 1849. The earliest section is a simple frontier cottage; the later additions expanded it into a full Greek Revival mansion with period furnishings. Confederate soldiers camped on the grounds during the siege, and a Union officer was killed here just after the city surrendered, making it one of the last Civil War casualties in Vicksburg.
Tours of the house are offered daily and include the well-preserved interior rooms with original furnishings. The grounds and gardens are pleasant to walk through independently. Located in the historic district a short walk from the courthouse.
