This Greek Revival courthouse was built between 1839 and 1862. It is best known as the site where Dred Scott filed two of his suits for freedom in the late 1840s and 1850s — the case that went to the Supreme Court and deepened the national crisis over slavery. There's a permanent exhibition on the case inside, along with exhibits on the history of St. Louis. Free admission; part of the Gateway Arch National Park.
