Lewis & Clark Brewing is Helena's most established craft brewery, occupying a large taproom in a former mechanics' building a few blocks east of Last Chance Gulch. The space is industrial in the right ways — high ceilings, exposed steel, enough room that it doesn't feel crowded even on a Friday night. The beer is reliably well-made, leaning toward accessible styles: pale ales, amber ales, wheat beers, with seasonal offerings that venture further. The flagship Miner's Gold pale ale is the thing to start with.
The taproom serves food, which earns it points as a practical stop rather than just a tasting room. The clientele skews local — state workers, college students from Carroll, outdoor people who've come in from the mountains. It has the feel of a place that the city has genuinely adopted rather than one catering primarily to visitors. That's the best kind.
