North Platte punches above its weight for a city its size. The two main draws — Buffalo Bill's Scout's Rest Ranch and the Bailey Yard observation tower — are genuinely worth stopping for on any cross-country drive. Between them and the local history museum, you can fill a rewarding half-day.
