Diamond Peak Ski Resort

Diamond Peak sits directly above Incline Village, with its base lodge at the end of Ski Way just minutes from the town centre. The resort is small by Lake Tahoe standards — 30 runs on 655 acres — but the views across the lake from the upper lifts are among the best of any ski area in the region, a wide blue panorama framed by pines and granite.

Because Diamond Peak draws mostly locals and repeat visitors rather than destination tourists, lift queues are shorter and the atmosphere is relaxed. The vertical drop of 1,840 feet makes it best suited to intermediate skiers, though there is enough terrain to occupy a good skier for a day or two. The season runs December to April. In summer, the lift infrastructure is used for mountain biking, and the mountain-bike trails connect to the broader Tahoe-area network.

A story
Diamond Peak is one of the few ski resorts in the United States owned entirely by the local community. It is operated by the Incline Village General Improvement District, which means profits flow back into community amenities rather than to a corporate parent. This arrangement keeps prices lower than at neighbouring resorts and gives the place a noticeably local, un-marketed feel.
