Sinatra Park

Sinatra Park is a slim strip of waterfront lawn between the Hudson and Frank Sinatra Drive, named for the singer who grew up on these blocks. The skyline view from here is exceptional — the Empire State Building dead ahead, the World Trade Center just to the south, lower Manhattan curving away to the right. It is the best free seat in town for the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks.

A small amphitheater hosts free concerts in summer; the rest of the year the park is a place to walk dogs, jog, and watch the river light up at sunset. Combine with a stroll north along the promenade to Pier A and Maxwell Place Park.

A story
Frank Sinatra was born at 415 Monroe Street in 1915 and grew up in Hoboken before leaving for the rest of his career; the family home is long gone, marked only by a small plaque. The park renamed for him in 1998 is the most visible memorial — its lawn is where local Italian social clubs still gather on his birthday in December.
