Lambertville rewards slow exploration on foot. The compact grid of streets near the Delaware River is small enough to cover thoroughly in a morning, and that is precisely how it should be experienced — strolling in and out of antique shops, pausing on the pedestrian bridge over to New Hope, doubling back for a coffee.
The People's Store Antiques Center is the largest single antique destination, with over 50 dealers spread across four floors of a historic building. The Delaware and Raritan Canal towpath runs through the centre of town and offers a flat, car-free route for walking or cycling north and south along the water. The New Hope-Lambertville Bridge connects the two towns via a pedestrian walkway — cross it at least once, ideally in both directions as the light changes over the Delaware.
For those interested in local history, the Lambertville Historical Society occupies the Marshall House, a Federal-style building on the National Register of Historic Places.
