Toms River's bar scene is split between the downtown area, which has a handful of neighbourhood bars serving a year-round local crowd, and the barrier island, where summer-season beach bars operate at full capacity from Memorial Day through Labour Day. The downtown options are generally quieter and more accessible out of season. Coffee culture has made some inroads but the area remains oriented toward casual dining rather than specialty cafes.
