Toms River is about 90 kilometres south of New York City via the Garden State Parkway. By car, take Exit 82 off the Parkway onto Route 37 east, which leads directly into town. From Philadelphia, take the Atlantic City Expressway east to Route 72 north, then connect to the Parkway.
NJ Transit runs bus service to Toms River from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan and from Penn Station Newark. The journey takes roughly 90 minutes to two hours depending on traffic. There is no train service directly to Toms River — the closest rail stations are on the North Jersey Coast Line at Lakewood (Route 9) or Point Pleasant Beach (about 20 kilometres north). Newark Liberty International Airport is the nearest major airport, about 80 kilometres north.
