Across the bridge on the barrier island in Point Pleasant Beach, just north of Toms River's sphere, the Shrimp Box has been a local seafood landmark since 1959. The waterfront location on the Manasquan River and the straightforward, honest approach to fried and broiled seafood — clams, shrimp, scallops, local fish — make it a reliable destination. The clam chowder is particularly good. Worth the short drive north if you're making a day of the Shore.
