Hotel Clovis

The 1931 ten-storey Art Deco hotel that dominates the downtown skyline

Address 201 Main Street

The tallest building in Clovis is the Hotel Clovis, a ten-storey Art Deco tower on Main Street that opened in 1931 and was, for a brief moment, the grandest hotel between Albuquerque and Amarillo. The brick-and-terracotta facade, topped with stylised southwestern motifs and decorative parapets, is one of the finest pieces of high Art Deco in eastern New Mexico.

After standing empty for decades the building was rehabilitated in the 2010s as housing for low-income seniors, so the lobby is no longer open to the public. The exterior is best viewed from across Main Street; it is most photogenic in the long late light of an autumn afternoon.
