A short walk from the Curry County Courthouse, the State Theater is a 1936 Art Deco cinema with a long vertical neon sign reading STATE running up its façade. Like the courthouse, it was designed by Trost & Trost; the auditorium originally seated nearly a thousand.
The theatre closed in the 1980s but was bought and restored in the 2010s and now operates as a community venue for live music, films, and theatre. Walk-in tours are possible when the box office is open; the night-time view of the lit-up sign is the best photograph of the downtown.
