Salmon Ruins

Ancestral Puebloan great house and museum east of Farmington, tied to the Chacoan world.

Salmon Ruins preserves a large Ancestral Puebloan great house near Bloomfield, about 20 minutes east of Farmington. Built in the late 11th century, it was connected to the wider Chacoan system of roads, ceremonial architecture, and trade that shaped much of the Four Corners region.

The site is quieter than Aztec Ruins National Monument and rewards a slower visit. A trail loops through the masonry rooms, plaza, and reconstructed structures, while the small museum gives context on excavation, ancestral Pueblo lifeways, and the San Juan Basin. It is a good add-on if you are using Farmington as a base for archaeology rather than just passing through.
