Farmington's appeal is almost entirely about what surrounds it rather than the city itself. The downtown has a handful of trading posts and the Farmington Museum, but the real draws are outside: the Bisti Wilderness to the south, Shiprock to the west, Aztec Ruins to the northeast, and Chaco Canyon an hour further. Use Farmington as a well-supplied base — fuel up, gear up, then head out.
