Miller Bell Tower is one of the easiest landmarks to orient yourself by inside the Chautauqua Institution. It stands by the lake, visible from the paths and lawns, and its bells are part of the old-fashioned rhythm that makes the grounds feel more like a seasonal village than a campus.
The tower is best appreciated as part of a slow walk along the lakefront rather than as a destination that needs much time on its own. Come past in the evening, when the water and lawns soften the formal architecture and the Institution's peculiar mix of lecture hall, resort, and retreat makes the most sense.
