Purity Ice Cream

Local ice cream institution operating since 1936

A 1930s ice cream parlour on Cascadilla Street that has somehow survived as a neighbourhood institution for nearly a century. Flavours rotate through the Finger Lakes seasons — fresh strawberry in June, sweet corn in August, apple cider in October. Among the year-round options, Finger Lakes Tourist (white chocolate chunks and hazelnut in chocolate ice cream) and the Sleepers Awake! coffee fudge are the locals' standbys.

Open year-round despite the climate; on a January Sunday you'll still find a queue. 700 Cascadilla Street, a five-minute drive from the Commons; expect $4 to $6 for a single scoop in a homemade waffle cone.
