Mount Van Hoevenberg is the Olympic bobsled, luge, and skeleton track used in both the 1932 and 1980 Winter Games — the oldest Olympic bobsled run still in operation. The track is open to the public for rides year-round: in winter, actual bobsled rides are available (with a driver), reaching speeds around 55 mph on the descent. In summer, a wheeled bobsled operates on a special track. Either way, the experience is genuinely thrilling.
The site also has cross-country ski trails — 50 kilometres of groomed Nordic trails that were used for the Olympic biathlon and cross-country events in 1980. In summer these become hiking and mountain biking trails. The Olympic cross-country course is now the Mount Van Hoevenberg Nordic and Biathlon Center and is among the best cross-country venues in the eastern United States.
