Striver's Row refers to the two blocks of townhouses on West 138th and 139th Streets between Adam Clayton Powell Jr. and Frederick Douglass Boulevards, designed by Stanford White and completed in 1891. Originally built for white professionals, they became in the 1920s the address of choice for Harlem's Black professional class — doctors, lawyers, artists, musicians. The Stanford White houses on the south side of each block are the finest, with Georgian and Italian Renaissance facades.
