NYC AIDS Memorial

West Village memorial honoring New Yorkers lost to AIDS and the activists who fought back

The NYC AIDS Memorial stands in the West Village, close to St. Vincent's Hospital, which treated many of the city's early AIDS patients. Its white steel canopy and triangular plaza create a small public place for memory rather than a grand monument.

The memorial honors the more than 100,000 New Yorkers who died from AIDS and the caregivers and activists who responded. It is a short, meaningful stop while exploring the Village's LGBTQ history.
