White Horse Tavern

Atmospheric 1880 literary saloon on Hudson Street where Dylan Thomas drank his last

The White Horse Tavern on Hudson Street has been open since 1880 and has the atmosphere to prove it. Dylan Thomas drank here during his New York visits and was carried out to his death from alcohol poisoning in 1953. The bar has since become a pilgrimage site for those drawn to that particular variety of romantic self-destruction, and a genuinely decent neighbourhood pub for everyone else.
