Stonewall Inn

Bar where the 1969 riots launched the modern LGBT rights movement, now a national monument

The Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street was the site of the June 1969 police raid and subsequent three-day uprising that is widely credited with launching the modern LGBT rights movement. The bar still operates; the small triangular park across Christopher Street was designated a national monument in 2016. The Inn itself is a National Historic Landmark.
