The beaches of Ocracoke are part of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which means no boardwalks, no beach bars, no concession stands — just wide, clean sand and the Atlantic. The National Park Service maintains a few access ramps and a lifeguarded swimming area in season, but most of the 16-mile shoreline is quiet and uncrowded even in summer. Shorebirds work the tideline in large numbers, and loggerhead sea turtles nest here from May through August. Bring everything you need and leave nothing behind.
