Sakura Japanese Restaurant

One of the more surprising things the oil boom left behind in Williston was a reasonably diverse restaurant scene — the influx of workers from across the country and abroad created demand for food that went beyond steakhouse and diner. Sakura is the survivor of that era that has settled most firmly into the fabric of local life. The menu covers Japanese standards competently: sushi rolls, teriyaki, tempura, and a lunch bento that is one of the best-value meals in town.

The fish is obviously not local, but the kitchen sources well and the quality is consistent. The miso soup is made from scratch, which matters. The room is modest and the service straightforward. On weekday lunchtimes you will share the space with oil-field workers and city employees; on Friday evenings families take over. Both crowds are equally enthusiastic about the place, which says something.

Sakura is on a strip close to the main commercial district. Call ahead or check current hours, as restaurant hours in Williston have been known to shift seasonally.
