Dayton Arcade

The Dayton Arcade is a collection of nine interconnected buildings in the heart of downtown, built between 1902 and 1915, centred on a spectacular six-storey rotunda capped with a glass and iron dome. After decades of abandonment — the last anchor tenant left in 1991 — it was restored and reopened in 2021 as a mixed-use complex with retail, restaurants, apartments, and co-working space.

The rotunda alone justifies a look inside. The restoration was meticulous: original terracotta ornamentation, cast iron railings, and the soaring central space have been preserved while the building has been brought back to life. It represents a significant bet on downtown Dayton's future and appears to be paying off.

A story
The Arcade's six-storey glass rotunda, completed in 1904, was inspired by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. At its peak in the 1920s, it housed 40 shops and a rooftop garden. After decades of decline and a long closure, it reopened in 2021 following a $90 million restoration — one of the largest historic preservation projects in Ohio history.
