Wintersmith Park

Wintersmith Park is Ada's finest outdoor space, a WPA-era park built in the 1930s on the south side of town. The Works Progress Administration left its mark here in stone pavilions, a small lake, and landscaping that has aged well over the decades. Walking trails wind around the lake, and the park is a genuine respite from the commercial strip along the main roads. The historic district designation recognises the integrity of the original New Deal construction, and the stonework shelters and structures are well worth a look on their own terms.

A story
The park was constructed by unemployed workers through Franklin Roosevelt's Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression — one of thousands of public spaces across the United States that turned federal relief into lasting civic infrastructure.
