Robert's Grill

Robert's Grill is a tiny, eight-stool counter on Choctaw Avenue, painted white with a red awning and not much else. The onion-fried burger here is slightly thinner than Sid's, the bun smaller, and the place much quieter — perhaps a dozen people in the room at peak. Some locals will argue it is the better of the two; both are good.

Add a Coney (a chilli dog) for the full picture. Cash is preferred, the bathroom is in the back, and the conversation among regulars at the counter is part of the experience. Closed on Sundays.

A story
Robert's has been open continuously since 1926, which makes it the longest-serving restaurant in El Reno and one of the oldest in Oklahoma. It is also the most disciplined: the menu has not changed appreciably in decades. The Coney is the dish to order alongside the onion-fried burger.
