Lake El Reno

Lake El Reno was created in 1966 as a city reservoir and is now the main outdoor spot in town: a 60-acre lake with a public park, fishing piers, a swimming beach, walking paths, and picnic shelters. Bass, channel cat, and bluegill are the usual catches; a state fishing licence is required.

The park sits on the western edge of the city and is busiest at weekends. Winter mornings, with mist coming off the water, are good for a quiet walk. The Fourth of July fireworks are launched from a barge on the lake, and the perimeter road fills with cars by sunset that night.
