Winganon Space Capsule

On Winganon Road between Highway 169 and the shore of Oologah Lake, a concrete mixing drum has been transformed into what is unmistakably a space capsule. The artists added portholes, a hatch, fins, and enough hardware to sell the illusion, and on a clear day it sits against the Oklahoma sky looking genuinely otherworldly.

It is the kind of thing you drive past, slam on the brakes, and reverse for. The detour from Oologah takes about ten minutes. There is nothing else around it, which somehow makes it more effective — just a spaceship in a field, quietly waiting.

A story
The object started life as a concrete mixing drum from a truck involved in an accident near Oologah Lake sometime in the mid-twentieth century. It sat by the road for decades before local artists Barry and Heather Thomas claimed it in 2011 and transformed it — with portholes, rivets, and rocket fins — into something that now genuinely looks like a spacecraft that made a rough landing in a Rogers County field. Roadside America logged it as one of Oklahoma's more inexplicable attractions.
