The Hotel Lowrey on Dewey Avenue, built in 1922 by local businessman Wiley W. Lowrey, was for decades the smartest hotel in this part of Oklahoma — a three-storey Classical Revival building in red brick with a stone cornice and tall ground-floor windows. It is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The hotel no longer operates as such. The building is worth a brief look from the outside if you are already on the courthouse square; the facade is one of the few intact pieces of 1920s commercial architecture left in downtown Poteau.
