The reason most people drive to Waynoka. Little Sahara State Park covers 1,600 acres of bright pinkish-white sand dunes south of town, rising as high as 75 feet above the surrounding prairie. The dunes feel completely out of place in the middle of Oklahoma wheat country, which is exactly the appeal.
Almost the entire park is open to off-highway vehicles — ATVs, dune buggies, dirt bikes, side-by-sides. You can rent equipment in Waynoka or bring your own. Sandboarding is permitted too. There are also designated viewing areas if you just want to walk to the top of a dune and watch the chaos at sunset. The park has primitive and RV camping; weekends in spring and fall are busy with off-road clubs.
